Feet In The Dirt

In my last blog, I mentioned grounding, and that is what I am going to talk about today. I know most of you either don’t actually know what it is, or think it is akin to witchcraft. I mention the latter because I live in the Bible Belt where pretty much anything could be considered ‘of the devil’, and I would like to pose an argument against that for this particular topic, because there are several videos that go into left field over this subject and reinforce that idea in a lot of people.

Unfortunately, many natural ways of doing things have been misconstrued as something bad by the powers that be, like Big Pharma, who would lose A LOT of money if people actually realized how the earth and plants can heal us at our core, rather than just covering up the issue.

That’s why you need to be careful with what companies you buy seeds from as well. Companies like Monsanto create GMO seeds, and poisons like weed killer, in what I believe is an attempt to infiltrate people’s natural way of life with malign substances that will further bring in money for Big Pharma, who benefits from our illnesses brought on by these products.

We don’t actually need their help, but they would prefer we not realize that. God formed us from the earth, which supplies everything we could ever need. He gave us every herb bearing seed for food, and food is medicine.

Let me be clear. I am not saying that modern medicine does not have its place. Many medical advances are very helpful for severe health problems that would result in death otherwise, but it should not be our first option. Many of the ailments that modern medicine steps in to save us from are caused by our horrendous diets, lifestyles, and lack of contact with the earth.

And don’t get me started on the side-effects list on EVERY pharmaceutical commercial. I will say this though. Next time one of said commercials comes on, pay attention to the length of time that it takes them to explain how their drug will benefit you versus the length of time that it takes them to explain all the ways it can harmfully affect, if not kill, you. Death is also a lucrative business. You have heard of, if not experienced, outrageous funeral costs, yes?

But on to the topic of this post.

Grounding, or earthing as some call it, is basically tapping into the energy of the earth to level out the energy within yourself by making either direct contact with the earth, or through a conduit like water, metal, etc..

Hopefully you all remember what I am about to say from science class. Everything, at its core, is energy. Whether your teacher said it in those exact words or not, it was the base meaning of their teaching on matter, atoms, and the like. I know you remember protons, neutrons, and electrons within atoms that make up basically everything that exists. They are positive, negative, and neutral energy that make up everything, with the exception of Hydrogen, which has no neutrons, but I’m not discussing that.

Positivity, negativity, or neutrality of molecules is affected by things those molecules come into contact with, so why would those things not affect us as beings made up of these things? We are made of energy at our core, just like everything else. We are basically batteries. I’m guessing you have seen The Matrix?

I don’t want to get spiritual or religious on you, but I do have to reference Genesis in the Holy Bible, which says that man was made from the dust of the earth. Physically it is our ‘beginning’. “Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.” I wanted to bring that to mind for those of you putting up a mental wall because you have certain mindsets in place. I am sure there are other religions that have some sort of the same idea as this as well, just as with Noah’s flood. If you have any references, please leave a comment.

Scientifically, the earth has a mild negative charge. Our bodies, over time, develop a positive charge, which isn’t actually a good thing, even though we use the term “positive”. Coming into direct contact with the earth returns the body to a more neutral state, where our energy is balanced. If you want another pop culture reference, think “balance in the force”.

Most of us don’t have this contact with the earth anymore. The majority of shoes have rubber soles, or other material that does not conduct energy or electricity, and we live indoors, which has broken our connection to the earth.

Think back to the last time you were barefoot outside for a moment, and then take that with you while you read the next segment.

Over time the build up of positive energy can cause health problems, like chronic pain and inflammation, among many other things. I personally spent time barefoot outdoors while I was pregnant for the simple fact that it lessened my back pain.

I believe the Indians had some knowledge of this, even if they didn’t have a name for it, although they probably did. Leather soled shoes, while protecting your feet, still allow you to connect with the earth’s energy, like moccasins. Native Americans are mentioned in the video linked below as well.

This the the first video that I ever watched that opened my eyes to grounding. It has the science to back it up, and can explain it much better than I ever could, so I highly encourage you to watch it if I have peaked your interest today. Dr. Briffman also has a good article with some references for you researchers, which is linked in WellnessMama’s article on the same subject.

At the very least, I hope I have stoked some curiosity in you all. Again I urge you to do your own research. Don’t believe everything you see, hear, or read, and think for yourself.

  1. This is SOOOO good!! We actually started early with Sarah and JD would take her out in the spring before she was even trying to stand and place her little feet on the ground. It was so sweet. And he’s told me stories about when he was a kid and he’d remember Granny would get “in her emotions” and would go out back barefooted to get “grounded” again! I’m glad you shared this!! 😊
