March 26 marks the one-year anniversary of my starting ‘The Wild Assault!’ I have started tinkering with it again, but I don’t have a word count of progress in the last week for ya’ll just yet. It does sit at nearly 45,000 words, though.
I’m in a reread and brainstorm episode at the moment.
There is so much I want to do with this story, and yet, I haven’t been able to get the words out right, as of yet. But don’t worry! Your girl is working! And when it hits, you know I can pump out thousands of words in a few days when given the chance.
Writing the prequel to ‘Blood for Honor’ is interesting. It is a slightly different process from writing the original story and astronomically different from ‘The Fire That Dwells With Water.’ When I come up with stuff for TWA, I have to check myself and make sure it aligns with the future, but when coming up with stuff for TFTDWW I can do whatever, as long as it makes sense and leads to the story’s climax, of which I already know and will not change. If ya’ll want to know how this story came about, let me know. It’s fun. I’m also not sure when I started writing it within the last two or three years. Hopefully, I will eventually find something in my pile of notebooks that lets me know the date.
I’m enjoying the differences in writing these two stories. It keeps things interesting and also stretches me in ways that ‘Blood for Honor’ didn’t. Sometimes, it feels like a crash course in a creative writing class I took back in the day. It’s nostalgic and new all at the same time.
