I finally got over the progress slump with around 15,000 words rewritten this week.
‘The Wild Assault’ rewrite is now at around 40,000 words.
I even managed to write a portion of a new scene of about 700 words the other morning while drinking my coffee. That being said, the original unfinished draft is 45,580 words, so I am very close to finishing the POV shift, and then I can work on finishing this story.
I have a few ideas rolling around in my head, one of which could shift the story from being so blatantly set in reality as I try to get the gist of it on the page because there are some things in ‘Blood for Honor’ that aren’t “natural.” So far, I haven’t really gotten into that with the prequel. There are so many layers that aren’t written out yet.
I learn something new about storywriting every time I sit down and make progress. “Doing the thing” is like being in a real-life classroom, and I love it. You can read about story structure and watch videos about people talking about what you should and shouldn’t do all day, but you have to actually sit down and write to fully understand it. And some of the stuff circulated is trash advice, so having experience helps you pick out the good from the bad. And even though I have already published one book, I’m still learning. Growing and learning is a neverending cycle!
I’m a student of my craft for life!
My goal for 2024 is still to finish the first draft of ‘The Wild Assault’ and hopefully ‘The Fire That Dwells With Water’ as well. I got six months. Let’s see what I can accomplish! I also have a 2025 Planner to create, so this should be interesting.
I have a 20% OFF Father’s Day Sale happening over at my Etsy shop. Orders $35+ get free shipping, so check it out before June 17 to get a deal!
Many blessings,
Emma Lee Joy
