Welcome to my weekly Friday Writing Update!
If you’ve been following me for any amount of time, I’m sure you have come to realize that I do quite a lot of writing, whether in blog or book form, and there is even more that nobody but me sees. Friday Writing Updates are specifically for my current work in progress, “The Wild Assault,” which is also the prequel to my debut novel “Blood for Honor.”
These updates will include my word count as of each Thursday afternoon and completion of chapters, and in some instances, story progress or change of direction.
You can check out this blog post concerning my writing style to learn more about my process and why I mention a ‘change of direction.’ Things aren’t always as they seem and don’t always work out how I want them to. I know the general ending of the stories I write, but I don’t always know how we will get there. Most of the time, my readers aren’t the only ones surprised.
Although I have not written anything new this week (or in a few weeks for reasons) because of the holiday, my husband’s birthday, and trying to figure some scheduling out, The Wild Assault (first draft) currently stands at 16,042 words with five complete chapters. My current reckoning is that Act 1 is done if I were strictly following the 3-act structure, but I’m not too fond of strict rules when writing.
“…more what you’d call guidelines than actual rules.”

Now that I have all of July scheduled, besides weekly writing updates, I should have some more time to start writing again. I’m excited to see where this story takes me, and who knows? Maybe my paid subscribers can read some rough draft stuff. You never know. Click here if you are interested in Premium Blog access, including recipes and extra fun facts you can’t read otherwise.
Many blessings,
Emma Lee Joy
